Occupational Therapy
As defined by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Occupational Therapy is “the therapeutic use of work, self-care and play activities to increase development and prevent disability. It may include adaptation of task or environment to achieve maximum independence and to enhance the quality of life.”
Our ‘occupation’ in this context is defined by how we spend our time, for example, work, leisure, self-care, etc. When illness, injury or disability prevents us from functioning normally in any ‘occupational’ area, that is there Occupational Therapy steps in to provide support and a plan to help you regain and maintain function. While Occupational Therapy is more commonly associated with helping the elderly or someone after an injury, it is also a treasure trove of help for children, assisting them with play, social skills and academic development. The goal of R-ON’s team of Occupational Therapists are to increase functioning & independence with repetitive exercises in the context of a functional activity. Our services include a personal evaluation to determine the patient’s goals, customized intervention and an outcome evaluation, with routine check-ups.
Occupational Therapy is an evidence-based practice, deeply rooted in science.
