Motor Neurone Disease
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease affecting the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. The body’s communication system to the muscles therefore gradually stops working – causing muscle weakness and reduced function.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order. There is currently no cure for MND, however, Neurological Physiotherapy can help keep you mobile, maintain your quality of life and maximise your independence for as long as possible.
Exercise and stretches can help reduce stiffness, pain, muscle spasms and increase energy levels
Breathing exercises can help with chest clearance and reducing the chance of chest infections
Your family and carer will be able to protect their own health and wellbeing by learning correct moving and handling techniques
